WAG Empowerment Programme Transforms Ika South Woman into Successful Entrepreneur

A beneficiary of the Women Advocacy Group (WAG) Empowerment Programme, Mrs. Nancy, has shared an inspiring story of how the initiative, sponsored by philanthropist and community development advocate Dr. Donald Peterson, transformed her from financial dependence into a thriving entrepreneur in Ika South, Delta State.
Speaking about her experience, Nancy described the empowerment programme as a life-changing opportunity that enabled her to achieve a lifelong dream after years of financial hardship prevented her from acquiring vocational skills.
According to her, she had always aspired to become a professional baker but lacked the approximately ₦200,000 required for formal training and apprenticeship. The financial challenge forced her to remain at home, where she spent much of her time caring for a sick parent while watching her dreams slip away.
Her breakthrough came when she enrolled in the Women Advocacy Group (WAG) Empowerment Programme in Ika South. Through the initiative, she was selected among beneficiaries to receive comprehensive culinary and baking training fully sponsored by Dr. Donald Peterson.
Nancy explained that although many participants were excited about receiving business starter packs, her greatest reward was the opportunity to acquire practical skills that would guarantee long-term financial independence.
Today, she proudly owns and operates a successful baking business, producing cakes, pastries, snacks, and small chops for customers within and beyond her community.
She revealed that customer patronage has been encouraging, adding that the knowledge and skills gained through the programme have enabled her to earn a decent income while providing support for herself and her family.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude, Nancy praised Dr. Donald Peterson for investing in the future of women through meaningful empowerment initiatives. She described his intervention as the fulfillment of a dream she once believed was beyond her reach.
She also appreciated her trainer for the patience, commitment, and mentorship that helped her master the baking profession.
Nancy further commended the Women Advocacy Group (WAG), Ika South Chapter, for bringing impactful empowerment programmes to grassroots communities, noting that the initiative has created sustainable sources of livelihood for many women across the area.
She concluded by praying for God’s continued blessings upon Dr. Donald Peterson, the leadership of WAG, and everyone who contributed to the success of the programme.
Nancy’s testimony joins the growing list of success stories emerging from the Women Advocacy Group’s empowerment initiatives, highlighting the critical role of vocational skills acquisition, women empowerment, and community-driven interventions in reducing unemployment, alleviating poverty, and promoting economic self-reliance across Delta State and Nigeria.
