The Grassroots Mobilization Network (GMN) has called on Nigerians to reject President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, describing the recently constituted campaign council as “self-serving” and disconnected from the challenges facing citizens.

The group made its position known in a statement issued by its National Secretary, Peter Okoye, in which it criticised the composition of the campaign council and questioned the ability of its members to deliver what it described as meaningful solutions to Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.

According to GMN, Nigerians should not expect significant changes from what it described as a collection of individuals who have allegedly failed to make a meaningful impact during the Tinubu administration.

The organisation argued that a presidency genuinely concerned about the welfare of Nigerians would have assembled a more progressive and forward-looking team capable of responding to the country’s worsening socio-economic conditions.

“This same group of people who have failed to make a meaningful impact in almost four years of their tenure cannot fashion a fresh agenda capable of taking our nation out of its current anguish,” Okoye said.

GMN Questions Campaign Council Members’ Records

The group also questioned the credentials and public records of some members of the newly constituted campaign council, alleging that several individuals who had previously occupied public offices had not demonstrated sufficient commitment to the common good.

GMN urged Nigerians to scrutinise the composition of the council and assess the track records of its members ahead of the 2027 elections.

The organisation alleged that the campaign structure was designed primarily to advance political interests rather than address the concerns of ordinary Nigerians.

“It is a self-serving group that has been brought together to serve personal interests,” the statement added.

Group Urges Nigerians to Demand Accountability

GMN further called on Nigerians to remain vigilant as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group urged voters to demand accountability from political leaders and carefully evaluate the policies, records and performance of politicians seeking their support.

It also accused the Tinubu administration of failing to adequately address issues of hardship, hunger and insecurity, arguing that Nigerians should consider these issues when deciding who to support in the 2027 elections.

The statement comes as political parties and various support groups begin preparations and mobilisation for the 2027 general elections, with the performance of the current administration expected to remain a major issue in the emerging political debate.
