The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly candidate for Isoko North Constituency in Delta State, Engr. Orobosa Uzuazomaro Ashakah, has provided solar-powered streetlights at the Ozoro Daily Market as part of efforts to improve security and support commercial activities in the area.
The intervention, which covers different sections of the market and adjoining streets, is expected to enhance visibility for traders, customers and residents while creating a safer environment for economic activities beyond daylight hours.
Ashakah, who is seeking election into the Delta State House of Assembly, said the project was undertaken as part of his personal commitment to community development and his determination to contribute to the wellbeing of residents of Isoko North.
‘Ozoro Market Is Economic Heartbeat of Isoko Nation’
Speaking during the installation of the solar streetlights, Ashakah described the Ozoro Daily Market as a major economic centre in the area, stressing that traders deserved a secure and conducive environment to conduct their businesses.
He said:
“Ozoro Daily Market is the economic heartbeat of Isoko Nation. Traders deserve to do business in a secure and well-lit environment.
“This is the kind of leadership Isoko North needs — practical, people-centred and immediate.”
The APC candidate said community development should not be regarded as the sole responsibility of government, urging individuals, businesses and corporate organisations to complement government efforts through initiatives capable of directly improving the lives of citizens.
Traders Commend Intervention
The project attracted commendation from market women, traders and community leaders, who expressed appreciation for the intervention.
The beneficiaries said the new lighting infrastructure would improve visibility and security within the market, potentially increase patronage and give traders greater confidence to conduct business later into the evening.
Some of the beneficiaries also described the intervention as an indication that responsive leadership could have an impact at the grassroots even before an individual assumes elective office.
They urged other public-spirited individuals and organisations to emulate the gesture by investing in projects that address pressing needs within communities.
Ashakah Pledges Grassroots Development
The lighting project is among Ashakah’s reported community interventions in Isoko North, with emphasis on areas including security, youth empowerment and support for small businesses.
Ashakah maintained that his interventions were driven by the belief that individuals have a responsibility to contribute to the development of their communities irrespective of whether they currently occupy elective positions.
He further stressed that sustainable development could only be achieved through collaboration among government, private individuals, businesses and community stakeholders.
According to him, leadership should ultimately be measured by its ability to identify the needs of the people and take practical steps towards addressing them.
The APC candidate said he remained committed to a people-centred approach that prioritises initiatives capable of improving security, strengthening local commerce and creating opportunities for residents across Isoko North.
