EFCC Arrests Fake Lawyer Over Forged NBA Seal in Lagos

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Ikoyi, have arrested a suspected fake lawyer, John Anoruo, for allegedly using a forged Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal to file legal documents.

Anoruo, who operates a legal and educational consultancy in Ikorodu, Lagos, was apprehended on Monday, April 20, 2026, and is currently under investigation.

The case, according to the EFCC, stemmed from a petition he submitted on September 22, 2025, on behalf of clients against Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited. However, investigations revealed that both the petition and a subsequent withdrawal letter dated March 5, 2026, bore a forged NBA seal.

The suspect reportedly confessed to procuring the seal from an undisclosed business centre within Lagos.

Further findings indicated that although the 55-year-old claimed to have obtained a Law degree in 2018 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, he never attended the Nigerian Law School, a mandatory requirement for legal practice in Nigeria.

The EFCC stated that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
