Former Nasarawa Governor’s Son, Umar Aliyu, Quits APC

Umar Aliyu Akwe Doma, son of the late former Governor of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a development that has stirred discussions within the state’s political circles.

Aliyu confirmed his resignation from the ruling party, describing the decision as a personal one and declining to provide further details on the circumstances surrounding his exit.

Although he has yet to publicly disclose the reasons for leaving the APC, political pundits believe the move may have significant implications, considering his influence and political pedigree in Nasarawa State.

Before joining the APC, Umar Aliyu was the governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in Nasarawa State.

He later defected to the APC alongside members of his party’s executive structure, a move that was widely seen as a strategic political realignment.

His latest resignation has therefore raised questions about his next political move and whether he intends to align with another political platform ahead of future elections.

Umar Aliyu is the son of the late Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma, who served as Governor of Nasarawa State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from 2007 to 2011.

Doma’s administration lasted a single four-year term before he was defeated in the 2011 governorship election by former Governor, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, who contested under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), one of the parties that later merged to form the APC.

The late Aliyu Akwe Doma remains a notable figure in Nasarawa State’s political history, remembered for his contributions to governance and democratic development in the state.

As of the time of filing this report, Umar Aliyu has not announced his next political destination, leaving political analysts and supporters speculating about his future plans in the evolving political landscape of Nasarawa State.
