The leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has been urged to intervene in an internal dispute surrounding its Kawo Constituency House of Assembly primary in Kaduna State.

The appeal was made by a group of aggrieved NDC members in an open letter dated September 18, 2026.

The members claimed that Rakiya Baba Mohammed emerged victorious in the May 29, 2026 primary after securing 225 votes, while Yunusa Mohammed Salisu recorded 132 votes.

They described Rakiya as the rightful winner of the primary and accused unnamed party officials of attempting to replace her with Salisu.

According to the group, the primary was conducted across four wards, while voting in Badarawa/Malali Ward was cancelled following alleged disruptions.

The petitioners claimed that the results from the concluded wards were duly compiled and endorsed by officials present at the exercise.

They further alleged that unregistered persons, individuals described as recycled members from other wards and underage persons were brought into the disputed ward.

The allegations are contained in the group’s open letter and have not been independently established in the sources reviewed.

The controversy comes against the backdrop of subsequent reports that Yunusa Muhammad Salisu was published as the NDC candidate for Kawo Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The aggrieved members, however, insist that the party should revisit the circumstances surrounding the primary and recognise what they describe as Rakiya Baba Mohammed’s mandate.

They demanded immediate restoration of her candidacy and called on the NDC’s state and national leadership to uphold the outcome they say emerged from the May 29 primary.

The group also demanded an end to what it described as internal manipulation and administrative sabotage.the

It warned that members would continue to pursue the matter through lawful and democratic channels.

The petitioners further expressed concern over what they described as intimidation of individuals who have spoken about the controversy.

They specifically referenced a lawsuit reportedly filed against Miss Nmaa Ukbapi and called for the dispute to be addressed through transparent institutional processes.

The group said it would mobilise civil society organisations, democratic institutions and other stakeholders to draw attention to the matter.

They concluded by urging the NDC leadership to act promptly on the dispute.
