PDP Dismisses Claims of Alternative Governorship Candidate, Reaffirms Ombugadu’s Candidacy for 2027

By Our Correspondent

The Nasarawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked reports circulating on social media and some mainstream media platforms alleging that Architect Mohammed Ibrahim Ja’afar has emerged as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued from the party’s state headquarters in Lafia, the PDP described the reports as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to create confusion and disunity within the party.

The statement, signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Musa Bako Shabu, urged party members, supporters, and the general public to disregard the information, insisting that it was the handiwork of individuals bent on causing division and discord within the opposition party.

According to the PDP, the only legally recognized leadership of the party at the national level remains that led by Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, while the Nasarawa State chapter is under the leadership of Dr. Daniel Joel Gimba.

The party maintained that the recognized leadership successfully conducted all processes leading to the emergence of candidates for the forthcoming elections, including the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms, screening exercises, and party primaries.

“The leadership recognized by law and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted the processes that produced His Excellency, Rt. Hon. David Emmanuel Ombugadu, PhD, as the sole governorship candidate of the PDP in Nasarawa State for the forthcoming general elections,” the statement read.

The party further noted that the same process also produced three senatorial candidates, five House of Representatives candidates, and 24 candidates for the State House of Assembly seats across the state.

The PDP expressed confidence that the publication of candidates’ names by INEC would finally put to rest any controversy surrounding the party’s authentic candidates and expose those spreading misinformation.

The party warned individuals and members engaged in activities capable of undermining its unity and progress to desist from such actions or face disciplinary measures in accordance with the party’s constitution.

“It is only a matter of time before the names of our duly nominated candidates are officially published by INEC, thereby bringing an end to the deception being peddled by those seeking to mislead the public,” the statement added.

Expressing optimism ahead of the elections, the PDP declared that it remains poised for victory in Nasarawa State, insisting that Rt. Hon. David Emmanuel Ombugadu and other party candidates enjoy widespread support among the electorate.

The party also commended its members and supporters for their steadfast loyalty, resilience, and commitment despite what it described as temporary challenges confronting the party.

“The PDP appreciates the doggedness, faith, and confidence of our members and supporters across the state. We encourage them to remain united, focused, and committed to the ideals of the party as we work towards achieving success in 2027,” the statement said.

The opposition party concluded by urging its members to continue mobilizing support at the grassroots level and to remain hopeful about the party’s prospects in the next electoral cycle.
