Dr Betta Edu, Director of Women Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, has pledged intensified nationwide grassroots engagement following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to supporting legislative measures aimed at improving women’s representation in governance.

Edu expressed gratitude to the President for his assurances on the proposed executive bills, describing the initiative as a significant opportunity to strengthen women’s participation in elective and appointive positions.

The APC chieftain’s remarks followed Tinubu’s address at the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

During the event, the President acknowledged the influence of women in political mobilisation and their contributions to democratic development, urging them to take ownership of the campaign for increased female representation.

“You women are the greatest mobilisers and foot soldiers of our democracy,” Tinubu declared.

He encouraged women leaders to intensify advocacy around the six proposed bills, assuring them that the administration would work towards achieving the objectives of the initiative.

“Go and work for them, and I assure you that they will come to fruition,” he said.

Reacting shortly after the President’s remarks, Edu welcomed the commitment, noting that legislative action to expand women’s representation could strengthen inclusion and create more opportunities for women to contribute to national development.

She promised to sustain engagement with women across communities, strengthen mobilisation structures and encourage more women to participate in political activities.

Edu also reaffirmed her commitment to advancing the women’s mobilisation agenda under the supervision of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

According to the campaign council’s women mobilisation chief, sustained grassroots participation would remain essential to building awareness around the proposed reforms and strengthening women’s involvement in Nigeria’s democratic process.

The development places women’s representation and political inclusion among the issues attracting attention as political parties and advocacy groups prepare for the next electoral cycle.

However, the ultimate impact of the proposed bills will depend on the legislative process, their eventual provisions and effective implementation.
