CBN Probe Rocks Buhari’s Legacy: Tinubu Investigator Seeks Posthumous Trial, Wants Boss Mustapha, Emefiele Prosecuted Over Alleged $6.2m Forex Deal

Fresh controversy has erupted over the findings of the Special Investigator appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to examine the activities of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) under former Governor Godwin Emefiele, following a recommendation that the late former President Muhammadu Buhari be posthumously prosecuted over an alleged $6.2 million foreign exchange transaction.

In the report, the investigator, Mr Jim Obaze, alleged that Buhari and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, were complicit in the disputed withdrawal of $6.2 million from the Federal Government’s Foreign Exchange Account domiciled at the CBN.

Obaze further recommended that Boss Mustapha be prosecuted alongside former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele over the transaction, which has remained one of the key issues under investigation in the ongoing probe of the apex bank.

The recommendations are contained in the investigator’s report submitted to the Federal Government.

The allegations have not been tested in court, and no formal charges have been filed against Boss Mustapha in connection with the matter.

Buhari, who died before the report became public, cannot face criminal proceedings under Nigeria’s legal system.
