The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alfred Emberga, of encouraging political intolerance following an incident involving campaign materials belonging to the party’s 2027 governorship candidate, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN.
The allegation was contained in a statement issued by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Bright Yima Antyo, on September 25, 2026.
The party said a video circulating online purportedly showed Emberga directing supporters to burn T-shirts bearing Aondoakaa’s image.

The PDP described the alleged incident as unacceptable and said political campaign materials should not become targets of confrontation between rival political camps.
PDP Links Incident to Broader Political Tensions
The opposition party alleged that the incident reflected growing political tension in Benue State ahead of the 2027 elections.
It further alleged that the Speaker had previously made comments concerning how supporters should respond to critics of Governor Hyacinth Alia.
The PDP also levelled allegations against the Alia administration regarding statements attributed to the governor and alleged disruptions of public gatherings.
The claims were made by the opposition party and require independent verification.
The party argued that political office holders should promote peaceful coexistence and respect for divergent political opinions.
Security Agencies Asked to Act
The PDP called on the Nigeria Police Force, DSS and other security agencies to investigate the burning of the campaign materials.
It also urged INEC to monitor the activities of political actors in the state as the 2027 election approaches.
The party said the incident should not distract attention from issues it identified as major concerns for Benue residents, including insecurity, displacement, unemployment, poverty and economic hardship.

According to the PDP, its governorship candidate, Aondoakaa, remains focused on presenting what the party described as a credible alternative programme for the state.
The party urged its supporters to remain committed to peaceful democratic engagement.
