Kogi West: APC Group Slams ‘Emergency Stakeholders’ Endorsement of Aro as Shameful

A coalition of concerned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi West Senatorial District has reacted with thinly veiled amusement to what it described as a “grand endorsement” of Hon. Bamidele Samuel Aro by a group of self-styled stakeholders.

In a statement made available to journalists, by the group leaders, Moses Segun representing Kabba Bunu/Ijumu federal constituency and Mallam Babango Suleiman representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency dismissed the development as both “misleading and shameful,” wondering when exactly a handful of “emergency stakeholders” acquired the constitutional powers to decide the fate of millions of party members overnight.

According to the coalition, while the APC may have many qualities, being a private family business run from a single sitting room in Lokoja is not one of them.

They stressed that candidates are produced through due process, not through what they termed carefully scripted communiqués and conveniently assembled photo sessions.

The group further noted, perhaps unnecessarily, that the people of Kogi West are politically literate enough to distinguish between genuine popularity and what appears to be hurriedly packaged endorsements.

They insisted that support across the district continues to tilt towards the incumbent senator, Sunday Steve Karimi, citing his visibility, accessibility, and empowerment initiatives as factors that have endeared him to constituents.

Describing the attempt to present Hon. Aro as a “consensus candidate” ahead of party primaries as “ambitious, to say the least,” the group suggested that such projections may be slightly premature, if not entirely fictional.

“The APC primary election, much to the disappointment of press statement enthusiasts, will still be decided by duly accredited delegates,” the statement read, adding that political strength is typically measured beyond Social Media and headlines.

The coalition advised promoters of what it called a “fast-tracked consensus” to brace for what it described as the “unavoidable inconvenience of reality,” noting that Kogi West remains beyond the reach of propaganda and political shortcuts.

Reaffirming its stance, the group maintained that Senator Karimi remains the preferred choice of the people, expressing confidence that the forthcoming primaries would separate media enthusiasm from actual grassroots support.
