Political Balance in Ibaji: Stakeholders demands fair rotation of 2027 Reps Seat

As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the call for equity and inclusiveness in Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State has taken centre stage, with strong advocacy for a balanced rotation of the House of Representatives seat among the three districts of Unale, Ujeh, and Onyedega.

Ibaji LGA, which is made up of the three major districts, has over the years witnessed uneven political representation at the federal level.

Available records indicate that Unale District has produced two members of the House of Representatives, including Hon. Frank Ineke and Engr. Anuka, a development many stakeholders say underscores the need for deliberate efforts to promote fairness in future political arrangements.

Against this backdrop, there is growing consensus among concerned stakeholders that, in the interest of justice and equity, Ujeh District should be given the opportunity to produce the next House of Representatives member in 2027.

Proponents of this position argue that equitable rotation remains a vital instrument for strengthening unity, fostering inclusiveness, and ensuring that no section of the local government feels sidelined in the political process.

Observers note that democracy thrives where there is a sense of belonging among all constituents, stressing that continuous dominance by a particular district could breed discontent and weaken collective progress.

They insist that political leadership must be anchored on fairness, equal opportunity, and mutual respect among the diverse communities that make up Ibaji.

The agitation for Ujeh District, according to stakeholders, is not driven by sentiment but by the need to uphold the principles of balanced representation.

They maintain that all three districts, Unale, Ujeh, and Onyedega, have contributed significantly to the growth and development of Ibaji LGA and therefore deserve equal access to leadership positions.

As the 2027 elections draw closer, political actors and community leaders have been urged to embrace a system that prioritises justice, fairness, and unity. Such an approach, they argue, will not only promote peace but also ensure sustainable development across the local government area.

Consequently, stakeholders are calling on all relevant political interests to support the emergence of a candidate from Ujeh District for the 2027 House of Representatives seat, describing it as a necessary step towards achieving political balance, strengthening cohesion, and advancing the collective aspirations of the people of Ibaji.
