NYCN Nasarawa Disowns Planned Youth Summit, Reaffirms Jaafar Loko as Legitimate Chairman

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Nasarawa State Chapter, has issued an urgent disclaimer distancing itself from a proposed Youth Summit allegedly being organized by Solomon Damina, describing him as an individual without any legitimate authority to act on behalf of the Council.

In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the Council, Musa S. I. Danka, the NYCN maintained that Solomon Damina is not recognized as the caretaker chairman of the organization in Nasarawa State and urged members of the public to disregard any activity conducted in the Council’s name by him.

According to the statement, Comrade Jaafar Muhammad Loko remains the duly elected Chairman of the NYCN in Nasarawa State, a position the Council said has been affirmed by a competent court of jurisdiction.

The Council alleged that despite the existing court pronouncement, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, has continued to ignore due process by allegedly supporting unauthorized activities capable of creating confusion among youths in the state.

The NYCN expressed concern that the Commissioner’s actions could undermine ongoing peace and reconciliation efforts initiated by Governor Abdullahi A. Sule to resolve the leadership dispute within the Council.

It stated that the Jaafar Loko-led executive had exercised restraint because of the pending court proceedings and out of respect for the Governor’s intervention aimed at fostering unity among youth leaders.

The Council disclosed that it had previously drawn the attention of relevant authorities to the matter but regretted that no decisive action had been taken to address the situation.

Consequently, the NYCN advised youths, government agencies, civil society groups, development partners and the general public not to recognize or participate in the proposed Youth Summit organized under the Council’s name.

It further urged the organizers to operate under their own organizational identity rather than presenting themselves as representatives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of the NYCN and ensuring that no individual exploits government institutions for personal interest or misleads Governor Abdullahi A. Sule and the people of Nasarawa State.

It also reiterated that the NYCN remains a non-partisan youth umbrella body that does not promote tribal or religious divisions but exists to unite young people across the state.

Looking ahead, the Council announced plans to unveil activities ahead of the 2027 general elections aimed at mobilizing youths for peaceful political participation, issue-based campaigns and violence-free elections.
