A factional National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has endorsed the 2027 general elections timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), assuring aspirants that all internal disputes and pending litigations would be resolved before the party’s primaries.

The committee, in a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, urged members to remain calm and focused ahead of the electoral season.

Naija News reports that INEC earlier unveiled the 2027 election schedule, fixing party primaries between May 22 and June 20, 2027, for the selection of candidates for various elective positions.

The commission also set February 20, 2027, for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, while Governorship and State Houses of Assembly polls are slated for March 6, 2027.

Reacting to the timetable, the caretaker committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu affirmed the party’s readiness to comply with constitutional and regulatory requirements within the stipulated timelines.

“In light of this development, the Party reassures its members, particularly those aspiring to contest elective offices, that all internal party disputes and pending litigations involving the Party are being diligently pursued and are expected to be conclusively resolved well ahead of the window provided for political parties to conduct their primaries.

“The PDP is fully prepared to meet all Constitutional and Regulatory requirements within the stipulated timelines,” the statement read.

The committee further urged aspirants to await official directives from the party leadership.

“In this regard, the Party urges all aspirants to remain calm, focused, prepared, and be guided by subsequent directives from the leadership of our great Party,” it added.

The faction also sought to reassure Nigerians of the PDP’s preparedness for the 2027 polls.

The statement added, “The PDP further reassures Nigerians of its readiness to offer Credible Leadership and a clear alternative anchored on Good Governance, Accountability, National Peace and Unity, and Sustainable Development for our Great Nation.

“Members are therefore urged to remain actively involved, intensify grassroots mobilization, and uphold the enduring values that define our great Party.”

The endorsement comes amid a prolonged internal crisis within the PDP.

The party has been embroiled in leadership disputes since some governors, including Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, backed the Ibadan Convention, which elected Tanimu Turaki and other National Working Committee members for a four-year term.

However, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, alongside allies Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu, maintained that they remained the Acting National Chairman and Acting National Secretary.

Although the governors supervised a transition from former Chairman Umar Damagum to Turaki before Damagum’s tenure ended on December 9, the Wike-aligned faction established a 13-member caretaker committee on December 8, appointing Mohammed, Anyanwu and others with a 60-day mandate.

Both factions later sought recognition from INEC, but the commission declined to recognise either group, prompting a series of court cases.

The various suits arising from the leadership tussle were consolidated at the Court of Appeal and heard on February 13, with judgment reserved for a later date to be communicated to both factions.
