Alia’s Camp in Panic Mode as Aondoakaa’s Popularity Soars, CTJ Alleges Ahead of Benue 2027
The Coalition for Truth and Justice (CTJ) has accused supporters and appointees of Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia of orchestrating a smear campaign against Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN, describing the move as a sign of political panic ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
In a statement signed by its President, Jerome Zoho, on July 14, 2026, the coalition alleged that Governor Alia’s camp had resorted to reviving what it described as long-settled legal issues in a bid to undermine the growing popularity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship hopeful.
According to CTJ, claims circulating on social media suggesting that Aondoakaa is barred from holding public office are false and misleading.
“The facts are clear. The legal issues they seek to exploit were resolved years ago. Chief Aondoakaa was subsequently cleared and remains fully qualified to seek and occupy public office. This is not a matter of opinion but one of public record,” the statement said.
The coalition argued that if Aondoakaa were indeed constitutionally ineligible to contest elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) would not have cleared him to participate in its 2022 Benue governorship primary election.
CTJ also questioned why the issue of alleged ineligibility was never raised during the legal disputes that followed the APC governorship primaries.
The group maintained that no court, tribunal, or legal authority has disqualified the former Attorney General of the Federation from seeking elective office.
According to the coalition, the renewed attacks are a response to what it described as Aondoakaa’s increasing acceptance among voters across Benue State.
CTJ claimed that the former Minister of Justice continues to receive widespread support based on his message of improved security, economic recovery, inclusive governance, and effective leadership.
The statement further alleged that the current administration has failed to address critical challenges facing the state, including insecurity and public dissatisfaction, choosing instead to engage in propaganda.
The coalition insisted that no amount of political attacks would erase Aondoakaa’s contributions during his tenure as Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
It described him as a competent and experienced public servant whose credentials remain intact despite repeated attempts to discredit him.

CTJ also alleged that the timing of the renewed allegations appeared designed to divert attention from what it described as growing public concerns over claims that Aondoakaa was being politically targeted.
The group urged Benue residents to remain focused on issues affecting the state rather than political propaganda.
According to CTJ, the future of Benue should be determined by competence, credibility, and vision rather than misinformation circulated through social media.
“The growing acceptance of Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN, across the state is clearly unsettling the occupants of Government House, Makurdi. Their panic is understandable. Their smear campaign is not,” the statement concluded.
